Long overdue...

Hi all,

If there's anyone actually still watching this after I neglected it so badly. It's been a busy month to say the least... Meghan went to the cottage for Thanksgiving for the first time. She had a great time visiting with Great Grandma Dettmer, Grandma & Grandpa Schwindt, Great Aunt Peggy and Uncle Mikey. The usual hike to Pike's Peak was less than exciting, as the path was overgrown and unfindable (or so I'm told, as I was fighting off a rather unpleasant bout with the flu or something...)

The highlight for Michael and I was that Aunt Peggy had tickets for the Leaf's game that she was looking to pawn off on willing attendees. Oddly enough, Michael and I were more than willing and as such got to attend the October 11th game against Philadelphia. This was a great game, and we had great seats. Most importantly, the Leafs won!

After that, we had a brief week at home before Meghan went to spend a week with Grandma and Grandpa Schwindt while Marcie and I went to Anaheim for a week. I had a conference there and we took advantage of the opportunity to go to Disneyland, Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, Hollywood and Santa Monica Pier.

This was a great week for both of us, and although the weather wasn't spectacular, it was a much appreciated break. We certainly are fortunate to have parents willing to step in and watch Meghan for an entire week while we get away.

Of course, it sounds like Meghan had a gre
at time with Grandma and Grandpa while we were away and although there's some evidence that she might have worn Grandma out a few times, I gather Grandma and Grandpa had a lot of fun with her too...

Well, that's all for now, I promise to make postings a little more frequently from now on...

Pictures from the move

These are a bit delayed in being posted, but we now have some pictures from the move to post. Should any of you need our new address, please let me know as I think I've sent it out to everyone now...

So Grandpa, what do you think of the Leaf's chances this year?

Long overdue...

A long overdue new posting. For those who don't know, last week was perhaps the most frightening week of my life. On Tuesday morning, Marcie was readmitted to Women's College Hospital with what was originally diagnosed as a mild stroke. After a couple of stressful days of not knowing what was going on, we discovered that it was actually post-natal preeclampsia. This is a somewhat rare syndrome that usually affects women during their last ten weeks of pregnancy but sometimes occurs post-delivery. We're all now home and healthy once more and back to the process of growing as a family. For those interested in more information on what we went through, there is an excellent preeclampsia support site (which I found after I no longer needed it.)

Now on to the happier times. Thanks to Grandma Schwindt, I've been able to secure some pictures of Meghan when she was just hours old. They are below, along with a nice one from her first walk on the Toronto water front.

Thanks to everyone for there support and well wishes, and I promise that postings will be less sporadic in the future...

Latest Update

Just cleaned up this post a little to include all of the photos on one post. (The software we use to upload puts them each as an individual posting, which I find a bit annoying.)

Also, to update on how things are going, Marcie, Meghan and I were able to come home from the hospital on Friday afternoon. Friday night was a bit challenging as Meghan was pretty fussy while she got accustomed to her new environment.

Since then, we've had a lovely visit from Grandma and Grandpa Schwindt at which time, Meghan went for her first walk in her stroller. She's also settled down a bit and has allowed us better sleep the last few days.

Today we go for our newborn doctor's appointment and hopefully we'll find out that everything is going quite well.

Thanks to everyone for their congratulations and well wishes, they were much appreciated. Hopefully we'll have a chance to see all of you shortly.

Quick Update

Just a quick update to let you all know that we'll be spending another evening in hospital. Marcie and Meghan are fine, but they would like to monitor Meghan's eating habits a bit longer. Apparently she got her appetite from her mother as she's a bit fussy. This does mean we're available for visitation again tonight (Thursday) from 3:30 to 8:30 if you happen to be in the area.

First Photos of Meghan

At last, some photos for all those who have been asking. As an update, Meghan and Marcie had a reasonably restful evening in hospital last night along with myself. We will be going home at the earliest on Thursday afternoon, assuming that Marcie has sufficiently recovered.

Now for the photos...

Meghan Katherine Schwindt

Well it's happened. At 11:41 AM on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, Meghan Katherine Schwindt (spelling of middle name still pending) arrived into this world, head first and via natural means. She's a very healthy 7 lbs 1.0 ounces and has been nothing but a bundle of joy (and poop) ever since.

Marcie and Meghan are both doing quite well, although Marcie is exhausted after what amounted to almost 16 hours of labour (thankfully the worst part were heavily assisted by the wonders of pharmaceuticals.) Thus far, Meghan has been quite content to spend her time sucking her fist, escaping from her blankets or sleeping with Mom, Dad and Grandma S.

I haven't yet been able to put together any pictures to post to the site, but as soon as I do I'll make sure they're available.

For those in the Toronto area (or those who have a passion for driving into Toronto during rush hour traffic) Marcie and Meghan (as well as myself for the most part) will be staying at Women's College Hospital. Visiting hours are from 3:30 to 8:30 on weeknights and we will likely be staying until Thursday morning (so tomorrow night we will likely be there...)

Baby Time

We just got word that we're to be induced later today. Apparently there was some concern about Marcie's kidneys. We've been assured that it's nothing major so all should be well, however this does mean that sometime over the next 36 hours we'll be having a baby...

So, if all goes well, the next post here will include baby pictures...
